Baramulla, July 23,:

People blocked the national highway in Mirgund Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday in protest against the drinking water shortage.

According to the news agency Kashmir News Trust, the traffic on the highway came to a standstill due to the blockade. Pertinently, the vehicles of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were also stuck in the jam due to the blockade.

The protesters are demanding adequate drinking water in their area as they complain of consistent scarcity of drinking water.

Earlier, a protest over a shortage of drinking water turned violent on the highway on July 19 (Friday). The violence had reportedly erupted when the police asked the protestors to reopen the highway but the protesters refused and started throwing stones at the police.

Few policemen were injured during the Friday clashes and police used tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. (KNT)
