Jammu, July 20:

The Jammu and Kashmir Police foiled the protest march taken out by J&K Congress leadership, for statehood restoration, at Jammu on Sunday.

PCC president Tariq Hamid Karra terms police action as most “undemocratic” and brute use of force. Police detained Congress leaders including Karra.

Earlier, JKPCC leaders took out a protest march in Jammu, demanding the restoration of full statehood. The march was being carried out under the party’s ongoing campaign ‘Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq’ (Our State, Our Right).

Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir said, “This is the commitment that was made by the PM. It’s been 10 months (since the Lok Sabha elections), but statehood has not been restored yet. PM Modi should fulfil his commitment.”
