Resignation of Adv. Toseal Ahmad as General Secretary BAU accepted, Adv. Basharat Ahmad Sheikh replaces Toseal till elections are held
BAU members reiterate demand of fresh elections to uphold democratic values of Bar

Baramulla: While nine members of Bar Association Uri (BAU) passed a resolution seeking fresh elections followed by resignation of its General Secretary Adv. Toseal Ahmad which has been accepted, President Bar Association Uri Advocate Shameem Ahmad Chalkoo out rightly refuted the news circulated on social media that BAU has ‘removed’ President Bar Association Uri which he said was factually incorrect.
While talking to SNS Kashmir President Bar Association Uri Shameem Ahmad Chalkoo said that there are 19 members enrolled in BAU out of which nine has passed resolution and addressed it to President BAU for dissolving the BAU body and sought fresh elections.
“ We kept the matter for discussion in meeting for next day and in the meantime General Secretary BAU Adv. Toseal Ahmad submitted his resignation which was also kept for consideration on next day. However, a false news was circulated on social media that I as president BAU was removed which was completely shocking for entire BAU and we strongly condemned it,” said President Bar Association Uri Shameem Ahmad Chalkoo.
He added that following next day a meeting of BAU was held in which both the resolution, resignation and fake news on social media was discussed. During the meeting, the resignation submitted by Adv. Toseal Ahmad from the post of General Secretary was accepted by Bar President Uri and consequent upon the resignation Adv. Basharat Ahmad Sheikh has been designated as General Secretary of Bar Association Uri for smooth work and conduct of the Bar till next election for the Bar will be conducted.
He further said,“ Bar Association Uri unanimously passed a resolution to condemn fake news and demanded strict action against the erring admins.”
” In the next resoultion, there was no demand fresh elections and signituries are same,” he added.
However, the members of BAU continues their demand of fresh elections as they alleged that previous election was not conducted free and fair manner and some members were not allowed to participate in elections.
“The majority Uri Bar members passed the resolution to conduct fresh election. In this context the General Secretary Bar Association Uri Tossel Ahmed resigned on moral grounds for the association lost majority support,” said Advocate Mumtaz Beigh.
The resolution addressed to President signed by the nine members copy of which lies with SNS Kashmir reads as, “ That in the past election process many of the advocates including the setting ( read sitting) president were not permitted to take part in the election process due to one or other reason meaning thereby the election/selection process was not fair which is against the norms /rules.”
The resoultion urges the President BAU, “Keeping in view above mention facts/grounds it is therefore requested you may kindly please dissolve the present Bar Body so that process of fresh election be initiated.”
SNS Kashmir also flashed the news on its social platforms with word ‘removed’ which is regretted, however, resolution for dissolving the present bar body was moved and process of fresh election be initiated was demanded.
