Baramulla: Panic gripped people of Baramulla town after a rabid dog attacked dozen of people in Kanlibagh area of Baramulla town north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday.Witness said that rabid dog
unleashed reign of terror after it attacked and injured at least dozen of people in Kanlibagh locality of Baramulla town.“The dog attacked everyone whosever came in its way which include children and women,” said an injured Abdul Rashid. All the injured were taken to Associate Hospital GMC Baramulla for treatment, he said.“When injured people reached Government Medical College Baramulla, the authorities there initially denied the Anti Rabies Vaccine (ARV) to them. However later on they managed it,” an attendant said. Principal GMC Baramulla Dr. Ruby Reshi confirmed that six people were brought to district hospital and they were given proper vacation and treatment.““We received six persons with dog bites injuries. All the injured were given first aid besides we injected them anti-rabies vaccine and after keeping them under observation for some time discharged them from the hospital,” she said.Brushing aside the reports and rumors that there was no anti- rabies vaccine available in the hospital, the health authorities said there is no shortage of vaccine and all the patients were provided the necessary medication. Later, the rabid dog was killed by the locals.Meanwhile, people have urged authorities to take immediate measures to check the menace of stray dogs which has created horror in the town as students fear for their lives. People lamented the neglect of Municipal authorities towards their pleas about stray dogs have gone to deaf ear.
