The Election Commission of India (ECI) will set up a polling booth inside the Assembly complex here for the Rajya Sabha polls.

Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a polling booth would be established in the Assembly complex, where MLAs will cast their votes to elect four representatives to the Upper House of Parliament. “The polling booth will be set up in a lobby of the Assembly complex,” they said.

According to the officials, the Secretary Legislative Assembly will be designated as Returning Officer for the polls.

“Besides him, an additional secretary rank officer of the Assembly secretariat will be designated as Assistant Returning Officer,” they said, adding that ECI will also appoint an observer for the polls.

Last week, the ECI announced that elections for four Rajya Sabha seats of J&K are scheduled on October 24.

As per the schedule, the last date for filing nominations is October 13, while scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 14. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is October 16.

Voting will be held on October 24 between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, the notification states. Counting of votes will take place on the same day at 5:00 PM.

The four Rajya Sabha seats were previously held by Mir Muhammad Fayaz, Shamsher Singh, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and Nazir Ahmed Laway—(KNO)
