In a significant boost to the literary landscape of Baramulla, the Baramulla Writers Forum on Sunday organized a grand and dignified award ceremony at Uri, where distinguished Broadcaster and Journalist Maqsood Ahmad was felicitated for his outstanding contributions to Broadcasting and Journalism.
The event witnessed an impressive gathering of prominent writers, poets, intellectuals, and literary enthusiasts from across the district, reflecting the vibrant cultural spirit of the region. The ceremony was graced by former Law Minister Syed Basharat Bukhari, who attended as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the audience, speakers highlighted Maqsood Ahmad’s remarkable journey in Broadcasting and Journalism .He always highlighted the problems faced by comen people and has consistently raised social awareness and enriched the intellectual fabric of society. They described the award as a well-deserved recognition of his dedication, creativity, and commitment to the world of Broadcasting and Journalism.
The ceremony concluded with the formal presentation of the award amid warm applause, making it a proud and inspiring moment for the literary fraternity of Baramulla.

Maqsood Ahmad served as the Editor of All India Radio Srinagar’s highly popular current affairs programme “Sheharbeen” for more than 25 years.

During his long and distinguished career, he played a pivotal role in highlighting the day-to-day problems of people living in remote and far-flung areas of the region.
He would personally visit difficult and inaccessible areas to listen to public grievances on the spot and subsequently broadcast these issues through the Sheharbeen programme, ensuring that they reached the corridors of power. In this way, he effectively acted as a bridge between the common people and the government.


In addition, Maqsood Ahmad also served as Producer of Pahari and Balti language programmes broadcast from All India Radio Srinagar, making significant contributions to the promotion and development of these languages.

Maqsood Ahmad is resident of Ghar Kot village in the border tehsil of Uri,He holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Kashmir. He later joined All India Radio Srinagar and recently retired from service. Even after retirement, he continues to actively highlight the issues faced by the poor and marginalized sections of society through his journalistic work.


Notably, Maqsood Ahmad has earlier been honoured with several awards and recognitions at both government and non-government levels for his contributions.He is the first person from Border Town Uri home JK government Awarded State Aword best Media Person 2010 by then Jk Governor N N Vohra.

It is also like to mention that Maqsood Ahmad Covered historical “Agra Sumit” between Pakistan President General Parvez Musharraf and Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee live from Agra for Radio Kashmir Srinagar from 14 July to 16 July 2001.He has Attended various workshops on Broadcast Journalism in various parts of Country like Hyderabad, Udisha, Shillong, Palampur,Uttterakhand ,Lack now Shimla, Delhi, Gaziabad, Cuttack and in other parts.
