Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF), Mr Abdul Qayoom Wani, has expressed deep concern over the rampant supply of rotten meat, Superiors drugs, adulterated mineral water, low-quality milk, and other substandard food items, which pose a grave threat to human life and public health. He said the widespread use of hazardous drugs in food items, spurious drugs ,polythene products, and disposable polythene-based materials is also severely damaging the environment.
Mr Abdul Qayoom Wani stated that the unchecked sale of adulterated food has turned into a dangerous mafia, operating without fear due to the negligence and corruption of certain officials. Particularly alarming, he noted, is the fact that milk supplied to cities and towns by certain distributors is nothing more than low-grade milk powder processed through washing machines, a major cause of life-threatening infections and diseases—especially among children. The complicity of corrupt officials in this trade amounts to deliberate endangerment of human lives.
Mr Abdul Qayoom Wani demanded:
- A comprehensive market-checking squad under the direct supervision of honest and upright officials.
- Vigorous punishment for all those involved in food adulteration and environmental pollution.
- A blanket ban on the manufacture, sale, and use of polythene items.
- High alert status for departments responsible for market checks, with strict action against negligence.
- Community-based awareness campaigns to expose such elements and educate the public on the dangers.
Mr Abdul Qayoom Wani emphasised that it is high time laws and regulations are implemented in letter and spirit to protect public health, safeguard the environment, and restore public trust. He called upon all concerned authorities to act decisively—without fear or favour—against these inhuman and anti-environment practices.
