Baramulla:21Nov:
The ongoing shortage of the Penta vaccine in Baramulla has left parents anxious about safeguarding their children against five critical diseases: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae. The vaccine, crucial for children under the age of five, has been unavailable in several healthcare facilities across the district.
A concerned parent shared their ordeal, stating, “I visited GMC Baramulla for my childβs routine vaccination, but the Penta vaccine was unavailable. I even approached an Asha Center, but faced the same issue. Finally, during a visit to Jammu, I found the vaccine easily available there. Itβs frustrating to see such disparities within the same region.”
When contacted, officials at GMC Baramulla acknowledged the shortage, attributing it to supply issues from the directorate level. They assured that efforts are underway to resolve the crisis, but no specific timeline was provided.
Parents have appealed to the LG administration and Health Minister Sakina Yatoo to address the issue urgently. They question why the vaccine is readily available in Jammu while Kashmir faces a shortage. “Our childrenβs health is at stake. Immediate steps must be taken to ensure these essential vaccines are stocked in all hospitals,” urged a distressed parent.
The situation highlights the need for equitable distribution of healthcare resources to avoid unnecessary suffering for families in Baramulla and other affected areas.
