Srinagar 19 July :

An employee of the forest department was killed and another got injured after militants opened fire upon them near Bangender Bridge in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, said police.

They said that the forest department’s two employees, who were rendering their duties in order to pre-empt the movement of timber smugglers, were left injured after being fired upon by the militants.

Both the injured persons were identified as Imran Yousaf Wani Son of Mohammad Yousaf Wani, a resident of Mohnu, Charar-i-Sherif and Jahangir Ahmed Chechi, a Forester Son of Ghulam Mohiudin Chechi, a resident of Gogjipather, Chadoora.

In the incident, Chechi received minor injuries and was released after first-aid. However, Wani received a bullet injury in his thigh and was shifted to a health facility for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries later in the day.

Following the incident, senior police officers along with additional reinforcement reached the spot to ascertain the facts, police said.

“Soon after the incident, the whole area was cordoned off by Police, Army and CAPFs and an intensive search operation was launched. During the search operation, two empty fired cartridges of AK-47, ammunition and one bullet head were recovered from the spot,” the police official.

Police later registered a case vide FIR No. 79/2023 under sections 16, 20 UAP ( Act), 307 IPC and 7/ 27 IA Act in Police Station Rajpora and further investigation was initiated.
