Zojila Plunges to -16°C, Shopian Coldest in Valley at -6.2°C

A severe cold wave intensified its grip over Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Tuesday night, with most stations in Kashmir dipping well below freezing and the upper reaches witnessing extreme sub-zero temperatures.
According to the data compiled by Kashmir Weather, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, Srinagar recorded a minimum of -3.9°C, while Shopian emerged as the coldest in the Valley with a bone-chilling -6.2°C.
This was followed by Pulwama at -5.8°C, Baramulla at -5.9°C, Pampore at -5.5°C, Anantnag at -5.5°C, Awantipora at -5.0°C, and Srinagar Airport at -4.0°C.
In central and north Kashmir, Budgam and Bandipora both registered -4.2°C, Kupwara recorded -4.0°C, Ganderbal -2.8°C, Sonamarg -3.1°C, while Qazigund dipped to -3.4°C. Pahalgam touched -4.6°C, Kokernag remained relatively milder at -1.4°C, and Zethan Rafiabad recorded -5.0°C.
The coldest spot across the region remained Zojila Pass, freezing at an extreme -16.0°C.
In south Kashmir, Kulgam recorded -2.2°C, while Gulmarg stood at 0.0°C.
In the Jammu region, temperatures stayed above freezing in the plains, with Jammu city at 8.8°C, Katra 8.5°C, Kathua 8.0°C, and Jammu Airport 8.6°C. Upper reaches were colder: Banihal -0.7°C, Bhaderwah 0.5°C, Ramban 4.3°C, Batote 4.6°C, Rajouri 2.6°C, Kishtwar 4.0°C, Reasi 7.4°C, Udhampur 6.0°C, and Samba 3.9°C.
The Ladakh region continued to witness harsh winter conditions, with Leh at -8.2°C, Kargil -9.0°C, and Nubra -6.8°C. (KNC)
