_Calls for proactive participation of People, Prominent citizens in fight against drugs_

In order to review the action plan and other measures to be taken for making Baramulla a drugs free District under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar today chaired an Officers meeting at Dak Bunglow here.
Senior superintendent of police Baramulla, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, Senior Superintendent of Police Sopore Shabir Nawaab, Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Zahoor Ahmad Raina, SDM Uri Harvinder Singh, SDM Gulmarg, Sameer Jan, SDM Pattan Syed Faheem,District Information Officer Baramulla Jahangir Akhoon and various other concerned officer were attend the meeting.
The meeting held threadbare deliberations on the rising trend of drug abuse. The challenges like cracking down on the peddlers, local drug supply hubs, consumption hotspots, rehabilitation measures were discussed in detail and strategies to tackle them were highlighted.
At the outset, the DC said that Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was launched to focus on institutional support and also on community outreach programme to make society free from all kinds of harmful addictions like alcohol, drugs abuse etc.
The DC also stressed on keeping proper vigil on the students bunking the educational Institutions during the schools/colleges timings to prevent chances of getting them involved in the drug menace.
Taking serious note on the issue , the Deputy Commissioner directed all the field functionaries from every department to identify areas of transportation and consumption of Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances so that a proper vigil is made for its elimination. She further stressed the concerned for proper implementation of NDPS.
The DC also asked for disseminating detailed awareness about the ill effects of Drugs in educational Institutions and other important places by holding awareness workshops against the menace of drug abuse.
She emphasized upon the concerned officers to ensure proper vigil in and around the schools/colleges to keep check on supply and use of drugs across the District.
She further called for involvement of Youth volunteers, NCC cadets, Anganwadi Workers in disseminating awareness about the ill effects of drugs in the society.
The DC also stressed for making calendar of activities in educational institutions to be followed so that students are sensitized for the hazards of drugs.
Stressing more on awareness programmes, the DC asserted that creating awareness on the issue is the most potent arsenal against it and called upon the people and especially Public representatives, civil society bodies, other social and economic organizations and prominent citizens to take part in activities conducted by district administration.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner also launched a Toll free Helpline numbers, a mental health Helpline to value life and for counseling victims.
