Residents of Sheeri stage strong protest against PDD and Tehsildar Baramulla for illegally installing 33000 KV line over residential area
Protestors say high-tension line pose threat to lives and property in Sheeri

Baramulla: Residents of Sheeri village staged strong protest demonstration against PDD department and Tehsildar Baramulla who alleged thrashed Sarpanch Sheeri when locals allegedly objected PDD department for installing 33000 KV power line over residential area in Sheeri.

Witness said locals residents of Sheeri village staged strong protest demonstration against PDD and Tehsildar Baramulla for his highhandedness and illegal installation of 33000 KV power line over residential area in Sheeri which they said are not only blocks approach road to lift irrigation pump station Sheeri besides hampers widening highway.
“We approached the concerned authorities for proper way of installing the line. There is short route available to take line via grid station but the contractor, instead of using just two poles, are erecting 10 poles which not only poses threat to lives besides encroaches approach road of lift irrigation pump station and hampers upcoming widening of Baramulla-Uri highway,” said a local Mushtaq Ahmed Dar said.

“It is third time, PDD department authorities came for installation for the line. AEE Yasir Kakroo was also on spot and we put forward our point of view. Both the engineers agreed with our point of view and assured that they will take the line via alternative route,” he added.
The protesting locals alleged that PDD is also installing line on highway which is encroachment to Baramulla- Uri highway besides pose threat to lives as the line is being taken in residential area.
Locals allege that Teshildar and police beat up women folk protesting against installation of the line.
“I as a public representative’s approach Tehsildar Baramulla humbly requested him not allow installation of 33000kv in residential area while alternative route via the grid station is available but instead of listening to my request Tehsildar Baramulla abused and lathi-charged me before public which is against law and shows arrogance of power,” said Sarpanch Ghulam Rasool Bhat Sheeri.
Protestors later staged protest in Sheeri main market and disrupted traffic; however, SHO Sheeri reached on the spot and apologized to public who dispersed peacefully.
“While Lt Governor LG Manoj Sinha says PRIs are the grassroots planners and representatives, Is this how PRIs are being respected by Tehsildar,’ asked another Sarpanch Abdul Ahad.
Protesting people appeal Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to immediate intervention into matter and also appealed Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to provide justice.
Repeated attempts to contact Tehsildar Baramulla couldn’t be materialised as he didn’t respond to repeated phone calls from SNS Kashmir.
