Baramulla: Body of an unidentified boy and a shepherd boy was recovered from river Jhelum on Tuesday in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Sources said drowned a week ago, body shepherded Nazir Ahmad Cheechi, 20, son of Mohammad Yousaf Cheechi, a resident of Panaar Bandipora was fished out from river Jehlum near Seer Jagir area of Sopore.

A rescue operation was launched however the drowned boy couldn’t be found immediately, they  said,adding after nearly a week into the incident the body was spotted near Seer Jagir area and accordingly retrieved. The body was handed to the family for last rites, they further said.

Meanwhile, an unidentified body of a boy was spotted floating over the waters by the locals at NHPC Dam Boniyar in Baramulla district.

They said that locals informed police and a  team reached the spot and retrieved the body from the dam.

Meanwhile a police official confirming the retrieval of the body from the dam said that “It (body) seems to be of a young boy”, adding there are no injury marks anywhere on the body. The body is being shifted to Baramulla mortuary, the official further said.
