BARAMULLA, JULY,28 :

On 27/07/2023 one person namely Ishfaq Ahmad Shiekh S/O Gh Mohammad Shiekh R/O Lokipora Khag approached PS Baramulla along with a written application stating their in that his brother namely *Athar Alie Shiekh who is involved in a murder case, presently lodged since 2022. Meanwhile three persons namely *Ashiq Hussain Ganai @ Ashiq MLA S/O Gh Mohammad Ganai R/O Khawajabagh Baramulla, Manzoor Ahmed Bhat S/O Ali Mohammad Bhat R/O Kanli Bagh Baramulla & Ashiq Hussain Lone Resident of Bandipora* claiming to be affiliated with a political party approached their family to get his brother released from the custody and demanded Rs 5 Lacs.

The complainant sold land and provided them ₹ 5 Lacs to get his brother released from the custody. However, the accused persons couldn’t get the detenue released from the custody thus the complainant demanded his money back from the accused persons. But the accused persons demanded more money from the complainant and warned that if they will not pay the amount they will face serious repercussions and will get his brother booked in multiple cases. In this regard case FIR No. 152/2023 u/s 384, 420, 506 IPC was registered in Police Station Baramulla.

Acting swiftly, a team of PS Baramulla apprehended 2 accuseds namely Ashiq Ganaie @ Ashiq MLA who is also a councilor of MC Baramulla and Manzoor Bhat R/o Baramulla. The third accused person namely Ashiq Hussain Lone is still absconding and efforts are to nab him.

Pertinent to mention that this is a second extortion racket which has been busted by Baramulla Police in last 1 month.
