Injuries took place during initial exchange of fire; area sealed, searches on, say officials

Anantnag, December 29 :
Two soldiers and a policemen were injured in the initial exchange of firing during an encounter at Nowgam village of Verinag area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag, officials said on Wednesday.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)that during initial exchange of fire a cop and two soldiers of 19 RR have received injuries who were shifted to nearby hospital for treatment.
He identified the injured as Rohit Yadav and Ishant of 19 RR and policemen Depak Kumar.
The official said that a joint team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched a search operation in the area.
“As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter,” he said, adding that during initial exchange of fire, militants managed to escape from spot where initial exchange took place, but it can’t be said whether they managed to break the cordon or not, however, search operation has been launched in the entire area to track down the hiding militants.
