The slain duo went to fetch cricket ball from the frozen tank and slipped into it

Kupwara, Dec 26 : Two teenage boys  died after falling into a water storage tank in Dardpora Kralpora in frontier north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday after they went to fetch cricket ball from water source.

Locals told Kashmir Images  that two youth drowned into the water storage tank and died after they went to fetch the cricket ball hit towards the tank.

” Two boys identified as Amir Mohuiddin Khawaja son of Ghulam Mohuiddin Khawaja and Faheem Iqbal Khawaja son of Mohammad Iqbal Khawaja, residents of Maidan Pati Dardpora Kralpora (B), fell into a storage tank died after the duo went to fetch a cricket ball from the water source which was hit towards the tank while playing cricket,” locals said.

Soon as the news spread, locals started a rescue operation to retrieve the duo. The locals were later on joined by police and army in the rescue operation.

An official said bodies of both the teenage  have been retrieved hours of hectic joint rescue operation launched by locals, police and army at the site amid prevailing inclement weather conditions.

He added  that bodies were being handed over to the families for last rites.

A pall of gloom has descended over the area on the tragic death of the teenage duo.
