Jammu, Mar 30 :

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said that the Union Territory government has adequate powers to legislate on important matters even in the absence of statehood.

Speaking to reporters after visiting Jammu and Kashmir assembly hall after seven years, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, Mufti stated that the government can bring laws concerning land rights, creation of new districts and administrative units, as well as issues related to daily wagers.

She stressed that the administration must focus on fulfilling its commitments, including providing employment to one lakh youth and addressing concerns related to reservation policies. She also called for a fresh review of policies affecting daily wagers, urging their regularisation on humanitarian grounds without political bias.

Referring to SRO-related matters, Mufti said long-pending issues of workers need immediate reconsideration, while also commenting on the West Asia situation, stating that Iran appears resolute and determined amid the ongoing conflict. (KNC)
