Jammu, July 28: Four people have died while around 35 people are reported missing after a cloudburst hit a remote village in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir early Wednesday, officials said. 

Official sources said that rescue teams have been rushed to Honzar village of Dacchan tehsil and further details are awaited.

They said that the four peole have died and their bodies have been recovered. 

The officials said that six residential houses and a ration depot have also been damaged while 35 people including four bakerwals are still missing.

SSP Kistwar, Shafat Hussain told SNS Kashmir that resue teams were dispatched to the area as soon as they received the information.

He said that 4 bodies have been recovered while further rescue operation was going on in the area.

Notably, most parts of the Jammu region have been receiving heavy rains since yesterday. 

With the prediction of more rains till the end of this monhth, authorities in Kishtwar have asked people living along side water bodies and slide-prone areas to remain vigilant.

“The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains during the upcoming days and water levels in rivers and nallas are expected to rise, which can pose a threat to the inhabitants residing near rivers, nallas, water bodies and slide-prone areas,” the district administration said in an advisory issued late on Tuesday night.
