URI , OCTOBER 10:

JKNC leader Dr Sajjad Shafi Uri has received 40,000 votes in the Kashmir valley in the assembly elections, setting a record.

The data shows that Sajjad Uri topped the list by securing 40,054 votes, followed by Sakeena Itoo with 36,623 votes and Omar Abdullah with 36,010 votes.

According to Election Commission of India (ECI) results, he secured over 80% of the votes in nearly 35 polling booths.

This marks the first time a candidate has achieved 40,000 votes in Uri.

Dr Shafi garnered more than 53% of the total polled votes, defeating senior politician and former minister Chaudhary Taj Mohiuddin by a substantial margin.

Locals in Uri say that Mohiuddin was supported by the JK Apni Party, BJP, Pahari Forum, Raja Ajaz Ali Khan, and indirectly by the People’s Conference leaders.

Political experts note that the leadership of the NC in Uri, along with the efforts of workers, the youth wing, and both traditional and social media, played a crucial role in Dr Shafi’s success.

Additionally, Dr Shafi serves as the district president of Baramulla NC, under whose leadership the party won all seven seats in the district.

Senior NC leader Mohammad Ismail Khan told Sarhadi times that Dr Shafi not only won his own seat but also contributed to the victory of all seven Baramulla seats through his strong relationships with grassroots workers.

As per Sarhadi times report NC workers from the district have expressed their appreciation for Sajjad’s efforts. (Sarhadi times)
