Col Sonam Wangchuk, the legendary Indian Army officer known as the liberator of Turtuk during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, is no more.
His demise marks the end of an era of exceptional courage and military valour.
Col Wangchuk was among the very few officers in the Indian Armed Forces to be decorated twice with the Maha Vir Chakra (MVC), India’s second-highest wartime gallantry award, for his extraordinary bravery and leadership in combat operations.
He played a pivotal role in the capture and liberation of Turtuk in Ladakh during the 1971 war, a strategic achievement that remains etched in India’s military history.
His contributions have been widely remembered as a symbol of fearless service and dedication to the nation. (KNC)
