BJP Legislature Party to Meet in Jammu as Opposition Gears Up for 10-Day Assembly Session

Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather has called an all-party meeting ahead of the upcoming autumn session of the House, with discussions expected to focus on ensuring the orderly and effective conduct of legislative business.
The meeting has been scheduled for September 17 at 2:00 PM in the Assembly complex. The Assembly Secretariat has formally communicated the invitation to political party leaders as well as members associated with the Business Advisory Committee.
Those invited to the meeting include Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Sharma, National Conference leaders Ali Muhammad Sagar and Mubarak Gul, CPI(M) legislator Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Peoples Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone, PDP leader Mir Muhammad Fayaz and Independent MLA Choudhary Muhammad Akram.
The meeting assumes significance as the Assembly is set to begin its 10-day autumn session on September 21. With the Opposition preparing to raise a range of political, administrative and public-interest issues, the session is likely to witness intense exchanges between the treasury benches and opposition members.
The BJP has also intensified preparations ahead of the session. Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Sharma is scheduled to convene a meeting of BJP legislators at the party headquarters in Jammu on Tuesday to discuss the party’s strategy and issues likely to be raised during the House proceedings.
According to the legislative calendar, four days have been allocated for government business, while three days have been set aside for Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions. Two of the scheduled days will specifically deal with Private Members’ Bills.
However, the focus is expected to remain largely on government legislation, as Private Members’ Bills traditionally face significant procedural and legislative challenges before securing passage.
The government is likely to bring four Bills before the Assembly during the session, with their introduction and subsequent deliberations expected to form a key part of the legislative agenda.
The upcoming sitting is being closely watched as it will provide the Opposition an opportunity to question the government on various issues concerning governance, development, administration and public welfare across Jammu and Kashmir.(KNC)
