Srinagar, June 19 :
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, on Friday chaired a high-level meeting of Zonal and Sector Officers to assess preparedness, coordination measures, and security arrangements for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.
According to an official statement issued to KNC, the meeting was attended by DIG Central Kashmir Range Srinagar, DIG South Kashmir Range Anantnag, DIG Armed Kashmir, SSP PCR Kashmir, Staff Officer to IGP Kashmir, along with all designated Zonal and Sector Officers and other senior police officials associated with the annual pilgrimage.
During the meeting, IGP Birdi emphasized the importance of maintaining heightened alertness, professional conduct, and effective coordination to ensure the successful and peaceful conduct of the Yatra. He directed officers to remain fully equipped to tackle any security or logistical challenges and to ensure the robust implementation of all operational plans.
The IGP instructed Zonal Officers to conduct regular briefings with Sector Officers and field personnel, ensuring that every officer and jawan is well-informed about assigned responsibilities, security protocols, and the prevailing situation on the ground. He stressed continuous monitoring, supervision, and communication across all deployment levels.
Highlighting the need for inter-agency cooperation, Birdi directed officers to maintain close liaison with all concerned departments and security agencies to facilitate timely information sharing, coordinated responses, and seamless execution of duties throughout the pilgrimage period.
Underscoring the significance of public service, the IGP urged all personnel to extend maximum assistance to pilgrims and ensure their safety, comfort, and convenience. He reiterated that a people-friendly approach should remain at the core of all operations while maintaining strict adherence to discipline, professionalism, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The meeting concluded with a comprehensive review of contingency plans, coordination frameworks, and operational strategies aimed at ensuring a secure, peaceful, and incident-free Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026, the statement added.(KNC)
