Rajouri, July 19 :

Intense rainfall triggered flash floods and a cloudburst in multiple areas of Rajouri district on Sunday, causing widespread damage to property, vehicles and infrastructure.

Officials told GNS that the Rajouri river entered Bela Colony, leading to flooding in the area. Several vehicles parked at Bela Bus Stand were washed away in the sudden surge of water.

As per reports, multiple houses and families are trapped in Bela Colony. Loss of livestock has also been reported from Bela and adjoining areas.

In Thanna Mandi Sub Division, flash floods affected Churung, Rajdhani and Behrote areas. Labourers working at a crusher unit in Behrote are reported to be trapped, officials said.

Meanwhile, a cloudburst in the Kotli Kalaban and Golinari areas of Manjakote Tehsil triggered flash floods that completely washed away the local graveyard into a nearby stream. Several graves were destroyed, triggering grief and concern among local residents.

The India Meteorological Department had already issued an advisory yesterday warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash floods in the region.
