Srinagar, July 19 :
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday announced that he will leave Delhi for Jammu this afternoon to personally oversee the situation in the wake of a weather warning and incessant heavy rainfall across several parts of the Jammu division.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said he has been closely monitoring the situation since early morning, particularly in Rajouri town and adjoining areas where extremely heavy rainfall has caused widespread disruption.
He said he is in constant touch with local MLAs and senior officials to assess the ground situation and ensure an effective response.
“Safeguarding human lives remains the government’s highest priority,” Omar Abdullah said, adding that the administration is fully geared to provide all possible assistance to those affected by heavy rains, flash floods, and damage to property.
He assured that every effort is being made to ensure timely relief, rescue, and rehabilitation wherever required.
The Chief Minister also clarified that despite his departure to Jammu, the National Conference’s statehood restoration protest will proceed as scheduled in Delhi under the leadership of JKNC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah. (GNS)
