Traffic advisory changes routes traffic on highway, Budgam-Baramulla railway service suspended  

Drones, sniffer dogs and CCTV cameras pressed in to maintain surveillance

Baramulla: Amid strenuously heightened security measures Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting Baramulla today (Wednesday) to address a mega party rally at Showkat Ali Staduim Baramulla due to which security has been beefed up and put on a maximum alert across north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

With deployment of additional troops on Srinagar- Uri highway,  various new check points have been put in place where police and paramilitary forces have been deployed for surveillance and vehicles are being checked thoroughly including at the entry and exit points of Baramulla town and on vital road links leading to venue.

“All roads around the venue have been put under CCTV camera surveillance besides drones have been pressed in to maintain aerial security vigil,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla Rayees Ahmad Bhat.   

“Day and night patrolling is being carried out while aerial surveillance through drones is also being carried out to ensure a close watch on the suspect movements,” he added.

Traffic police authorities have also issued a Traffic Advisory ahead of Home Minister to Baramulla which has restricted movement traffic on highway from Khanpora Baramulla to Sangrama as the venue fall on highway at Khawajabagh Baramulla.

“In view of public rally at Showkat Ali Stadium Baramulla on 5th of October-2022, motorists who are intending to travel from Srinagar to Baramulla, Uri and vice-versa are advised to adopt designated routes to reach their destinations on said date,” reads an advisory issued by Traffic Police Office Rural Kashmir.  

 It further said that the vehicles plying from Srinagar to Baramulla and Uri shall opt for Srinagar – Pattan – Sangrama – Sopore – Fruit Mandi – Ladoora – Azad gunj – Khanpora bridge – Uri route while as vehicles plying from Uri- Baramulla to Srinagar shall opt for Uri -Khanpora Bridge – Azadgunj – Ladoora- Fruit Mandi- Sopore- Sangrama – Pattan – Srinagar route. 

Meanwhile, railway department has issued an order for suspension of railway service from Budgam to Baramulla on the eve of Home Minster’s visit to Baramulla.

 Earlier on last week, Jammu and Kashmir police chief – Dilbag Singh visited the district and chaired a meeting of civil and police officers to review the security arrangements. The DGP emphasized upon the officers to keep an eye on the activities of suspicious elements who always try to find an opportunity to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere.

Pertinent to mention, Shah is also scheduled to make announcements about various welfare schemes for Paharis and Schedule Tribe people in Baramulla.

BJP’s J&K unit president Ravinder Rain, “The people from different parts of the Valley would participate in the rally and we are expecting a gathering of 30,000 participants from Srinagar, south Kashmir and mostly from Bandipora, Baramulla and other nearby places.

He is scheduled to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir at a meeting to be held at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, top officials of the army, paramilitary forces, state police and civil administration will take part in the high-level meeting.
