New Delhi, June 24 :

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the 10th Apex-Level Meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) in New Delhi on Friday, where the Centre is expected to review the country’s anti-narcotics strategy and unveil a comprehensive Vision Document for 2026-2029 aimed at strengthening the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse.

Official sources said the high-level meeting will bring together senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), central enforcement agencies, representatives of various State Governments and other stakeholders engaged in tackling the growing drug menace across the country.

The deliberations are expected to focus on enhancing inter-agency coordination, dismantling drug trafficking networks, curbing narco-terrorism and strengthening enforcement mechanisms to effectively combat narcotics-related crimes.

According to reports, the proposed Vision Document 2026-2029 will outline a long-term roadmap for addressing drug trafficking, reducing drug demand, improving rehabilitation and de-addiction measures, and leveraging technology-driven intelligence systems to tackle emerging narcotics challenges. The document is expected to serve as a guiding framework for anti-drug operations and policy interventions over the next three years.

The meeting assumes significance amid the Centre’s intensified crackdown on narcotics and narco-terrorism. Home Minister Amit Shah has repeatedly stressed that the drug menace is not merely a law-and-order issue but also a serious threat to national security. He has called for a coordinated and result-oriented approach involving all States, Union Territories and enforcement agencies to achieve the goal of a drug-free India.

Established in 2016, the NCORD mechanism functions as a multi-tier coordination platform aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Centre, States and law enforcement agencies in addressing drug trafficking and related criminal networks.

Officials said the apex meeting will review the progress of ongoing anti-drug initiatives, assess enforcement outcomes and formulate strategies for more effective action against narcotics syndicates operating across the country.

The meeting is also expected to discuss emerging trends in drug trafficking, cross-border smuggling networks and measures to further strengthen intelligence-sharing and operational coordination among agencies engaged in the fight against narcotics.(KNC)
