Four drug peddlers along with 1.17 kilograms of brown sugar-like substance and Rs 25.39 lakh cash arrested in Uri

Baramulla: Four days after a woman drug peddler was arrested in Boniyar Uri, Police arrested four drug peddlers along with 1.17 kilograms of brown sugar-like substance and Rs 25.39 lakh in cash in frontier village Kamalkote Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday.
A top police officer said that acting on specific input regarding smuggling of narcotics from Kamalkote village Uri, a police party led by In- charge Police Post Kamalkote under the supervision of SDPO Uri Showkat Ali set up a mobile check point at Sultan Daki.“A vehicle (Tata Sumo) bearing registration No.JK05D-3680 on its way from Kamalkote towards Uri was signalled to stop but the driver instead tried to flee from the spot,” the officer said.
However, the vehicle was tactfully stopped by an alert police party. Four persons were onboard the vehicle.During a search of the vehicle, police found Rs 25.39 lakh in cash and 1.17 kg of contraband, apparently brown sugar.All four, including the driver of the vehicle, were arrested.
They were identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhatti son of Nazar Din Bhatti, Reyaz Ahmad Khanday son of Mohd Sharief Khanday, Fayaz Ahmad Khanday son of Mohd Sharief Khanday and Mohd Pazeer son of Abdul Majeed Khanday, all residents of Madiyan Kamalkote Uri. The vehicle was seized and all four were booked in police station Uri.
“Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 12/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Uri and investigation set into motion,” the police officer said.“During preliminary investigation, it was learnt that under a well hatched conspiracy, Pakistan-based handlers are pushing drugs inside JK through such smugglers to spread drug addiction among the youth,” he said.The Police in Baramulla district have arrested twenty three drug peddlers in scores of FIRs registered in one and half months of the year 2023.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Amod Nagpure (IPS), said that they are ‘at war with drugs’. “Our aim is to make Baramulla Drug free,” he said.“Please cooperate with Police to curb drug menace. Your identity will be protected,” SSP appealed to the general public.Four days ago a female drug peddler identified as Rubeena Begum, a resident of Chandanwari Uri, involved in selling contraband drugs to the youth was arrested in Boniyar Uri.On 20 November, 2022, Four heroin packets, worth of crores in the black market, were recovered and a peddler arrested in a joint operation by the police and the army at Uri.On 02 December 2022, two AK-74 rifles, ammunition and 10 packets of heroin-like substance weighing around 10kg were recovered during a joint search operation launched by J&K Police and Indian Army in Rewand nullah of Kamalkote in Uri.
