Baramulla, January 25:

A day before Republic Day, Baramulla witnessed a spectacular “Know Your Army” mela, bringing the Indian Army closer to the public and showcasing its technological might. The event aimed at educating the youth about the Army’s capabilities while emphasizing the strong bond between the “Awaam and Jawaan” in the region.

The crowd was captivated by a drone flypast, artillery demonstrations, new-generation vehicles, and advanced equipment. A National Flag, towering at 35 meters, was proudly displayed on a military mast. The event kicked off with 150 children entering the grounds, carrying a 500-meter-long National Flag, marking the culmination of the Tiranga Yatra from the DC office to the event venue.

Organized by the Dagger Division of Chinar Corps to commemorate the 76th Republic Day, the event was graced by the GOC of Dagger Division as the Chief Guest, accompanied by the Commander of Baramulla Brigade. District administration officials, along with security forces like BSF, CRPF, JKP, and NCC cadets, attended the event. Over 2,500 people from all walks of life, including civil society members, youth leaders, students, and families, gathered to witness the event.

Shadaab, a youth from Old Town, said, “This is the first time such an event has been held here. The Sikh Gatka and the performance by trained Army dogs were amazing.”

Rehman Malik, a student at GDC Baramulla, shared his excitement: “I have never seen such an impressive display of weapons and vehicles. The Military Band performance was unique and spectacular.”

Touseef Raina, a local youth leader, remarked, “Such events where the army engages with the youth help dispel myths and show us that we can be proud of our army. This event has inspired many to consider joining the defense forces.”

The event featured a variety of activities, including a drive-past of the latest military vehicles, a drone flypast, Karate demonstrations by Chinar YUVA Karate Kids, the Army Martial Arts routine “AMAR,” a military band display, a K9 dog show by the Army, and the Sikh martial art Gatka. Stalls showcasing military equipment and a Mobile Museum narrated stories of the camaraderie between the Awaam and Jawaan of Baramulla. A recruitment counter also provided information on how to join the army.

This event highlighted the unwavering dedication of the Indian Army and served as a platform to inspire the youth of Baramulla to take pride in their nation’s armed forces.
