Ropes in NGO, Medicos for counseling sessions under ADP

Baramulla, Feb 09 :

In a first of its kind, the education authorities in Baramulla district have launched ‘Umang’ initiative to keep the students of class 10th to 12th away from stress in view of their upcoming annual Board exams.

As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the initiative is being implemented under Aspirational District Programme (ADP) and the department has roped in NGO and medicos from Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla.

The initiative, inaugurated by the Additional District Commissioner (ADC) Baramulla is aimed at keeping students motivated for their upcoming Board examinations.

“We have collaborated with the psychiatric department of GMC Baramulla who will provide counsellors for the students,” an official said.

The department has prepared a detailed calendar of activities for the smooth implementation of the other programme for the well being of the students.

“The initiative will be implemented in a virtual move and we have prepared a zone wise roaster wherein the concerned schools will provide a link to the students under which they will be asked to do some exercises. These steps will help them to remain relaxed and focused towards the exams,” the official said.

Notably, this year the students will be appearing in the exams in March session in line with the National Academic Calendar.

“There was a major change in the whole process and pattern of question paper has also changed post adoption of NEP-2020. So, we want to keep our students motivated for the exams,” the official said.

The official said that Umang- ‘The Right Frame of Mind’ is a campaign on mental wellbeing of the students which will focus on Secondary and Senior Secondary students and help them with exam-related stress and anxieties.

“Our ultimate goal is to help our student community currently preparing for their board exams to develop a positive mindset and attitude,” the official said.

As part of the collaboration, the Psychiatric department of GMC Baramulla has ensured its full support for the campaign.

Also, the department has roped in an NGO- Piramal Foundation whose volunteers will provide counseling to the students to beat the exam stress.

The initiative has been divided into two phases wherein the Phase-I of the campaign will encompass virtual sessions with students till the new academic session resumes and the Phase-II will see a wider participation and will be based on two pillars including Collaboration and Convergence for the optimal outreach and impact of the campaign.
