Srinagar, Aug 31 :
The month-long population enumeration in snow-bound areas of Jammu & Kashmir will begin tomorrow, with enumerators set to physically visit households to record details in 16 districts of the Union Territory.
The population count in the snow-bound areas of J&K will begin on September 1 and continue till September 30.
“The population enumeration exercise will begin in snow-bound areas of J&K and the entire Ladakh Union Territory,” Amit Sharma, Director Census Operations for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Union Territories, told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Sharma, who is also Chief Principal Census Officer for J&K and Ladakh, is visiting Dudu and Basantgarh sub-divisions of Udhampur to formally inaugurate the population enumeration exercise.
As per details available with KNO, the population enumeration in 1115 villages and three municipalities, which fall under the list of snow-bound non-synchronous areas.
The highest number of such villages/municipalities has been identified in Doda district (305), followed by Kishtwar (158), Baramulla (93), Kathua (48), Poonch (24), Kupwara (49), Budgam (5), Bandipora (28), Ganderbal (7), Pulwama (32), Shopian (32), Anantnag (55), Kulgam (66), Ramban (88), Udhampur (79), and Reasi (49).
The municipalities falling under snow-bound non-synchronous areas are Uri, Gulmarg, and Kishtwar.
The self-enumeration exercise for the second phase was undertaken in these areas from August 17 to August 31.
The first phase of the census in the entire UT was carried out in June by officials—(KNO)
