Government Stands Firmly with Bereaved Families; Relief to Be Given in Addition to ₹6 Lakh District Assistance

Srinagar, Aug 1 :

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday strongly condemned the terrorist attack in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district that claimed the lives of two non-local labourers, terming the incident a “dastardly act” and announcing an ex-gratia relief of ₹10 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the next of kin of the deceased.

According to an official statement issued by the Office of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah expressed profound grief over the killing of the innocent labourers and extended his heartfelt condolences to their bereaved families. He said the attack was a cowardly act of terror and assured that the government stands firmly with the affected families in this hour of grief.

The Chief Minister announced that the financial assistance of ₹10 lakh per deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund would be provided over and above the ₹6 lakh immediate relief already sanctioned by the District Administration to each of the bereaved families.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to support the victims’ families, Omar Abdullah said every possible assistance would be extended to help them cope with the tragic loss.

The terror attack took place on Friday evening in the Kilam area of Kulgam, where terrorists opened fire on two non-local labourers, inflicting critical injuries. Both victims later succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll to two.

Meanwhile, security forces have launched a massive search operation in the area to trace and neutralise the attackers. Senior police and security officials are monitoring the operation, while investigations into the incident are underway.

The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders, civil society members and the public, who have termed the targeting of innocent labourers a heinous act aimed at disturbing peace and communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNC)
