Srinagar, Jan 09 :

Frustrated over the lack of public transport during evening hours in Srinagar, commuters in Srinagar have expressed displeasure, accusing the concerned authorities of being ‘Non Serious’ about making the transport facilities available for the masses.

A group of commuters from Srinagar told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they are facing transport issues during evening hours while reaching their destinations, stating that they have to wait for hours to catch the bus.

“Commuting during evening hours is not easy especially in winter as there is very less availability of public transport. Women, elderly people face huge inconvenience and by chance, if any bus comes they have to jump over to catch a space in the bus”, said a group of commuters.

Notably, on any given day, many commuters can be seen waiting for passenger buses near Kashmir Hatt, LalChowk, JehangirChowk, Sanat Nagar, Rambagh, Jawahar Nagar, Abdullah Bridge, Soura, Sonwar, Batwara and Dalgate, Gogjibagh, Bemina, and its surrounding neighborhoods.

Accusing the Transport authorities of being ‘non-serious’ towards the minimal public transport availability during evening hours, a group of students said that on their return from tuition classes, they seek lift from private vehicles or board Sumo vehicles which charge them extra bucks.

“Everyone does not own private or have personal transport, while my cousin and I have to go for coaching in Rajbagh we have to use public transport and coming back to my home is never easy as we often board auto rickshaw as buses don’t come for hours or are overcrowded”, said Saika, a NEET student.

Meanwhile, repeated attempts to reach out to concerned officials by KNO didn’t fructify—(KNO)
