Jammu, 09 April 2025:
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has initiated compensation measures for landowners and shopkeepers affected by road widening under the Baramulla-Uri National Highway (Package-IV). The official response came in reply to an un-starred question (No. 1165) raised by Hon’ble MLA Mr. Sajaad Shafi in the Legislative Assembly.
According to the Revenue Department, the land acquisition process under the 3G Award was finalized by the Competent Authority for Land Acquisition (Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla) on October 28, 2024. The compensation pertains to 13 villages in total, with 11 falling under the Uri constituency.
Key villages include Uri, Lalgam, Hundi Nowhera, Girdanawah, Chahal, Zamzampora, and Gantmulla Bala among others. A total of approximately 570 beneficiaries (landowners) are affected across 11 villages, with areas ranging from 0.0669 to 2.4805 hectares.
The total compensation for the land acquired across all 13 villages stands at Rs. 101.84 crore, which includes 2.5% administrative charges. Additionally, a compensation amount of Rs. 4.96 crore (5% of the award) has been processed via DBT mode through the Bhoomi Rashi Portal, directly to the rightful landowners after verification of revenue records.
The government has yet to elaborate on specific rehabilitation policies for the affected shopkeepers, though the compensation process has been highlighted as a structured and transparent measure for landowners.
The statement was issued by the Under Secretary to the Government, Revenue Department.
