PCC Chief Tariq Hamid Karra, G.A. Mir Lead Dharna in Jammu, Call Statehood People’s Democratic Right
Jammu, July 19 :
The Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Sunday staged a dharna at Maharaja Hari Singh Park in Jammu, reiterating its demand for the immediate restoration of statehood to the Union Territory and warning of an intensified public agitation if the demand continues to be ignored.
Addressing party workers and supporters during the protest, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hamid Karra said the restoration of statehood remains a core demand of the people and urged the Centre to honour its commitment without further delay.
Karra warned that if the Union Government fails to restore statehood, the Congress party will intensify its agitation across Jammu and Kashmir to press for the demand.
Senior Congress leader and General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir also addressed the gathering, asserting that statehood is the democratic right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and should be restored at the earliest.
The Congress leaders said the party would continue its peaceful democratic struggle until the aspirations of the people are fulfilled, reiterating that the restoration of statehood is essential for strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring effective governance in the region.
The dharna witnessed the participation of several senior party leaders, workers and supporters, who raised slogans in support of the restoration of statehood and urged the Centre to act without further delay.(KNC)
