New Delhi, Sep 9 :

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the National Investigation Agency whether Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Engineer Rashid could be released on bail subject to stringent conditions, including remaining in Delhi, in the alleged terror-funding case.

The court directed that statements of two protected witnesses be recorded before the trial court before the next hearing, which has been scheduled for November 3.

The NIA opposed the bail plea, submitting that sufficient prima facie material indicates Rashid’s involvement in the case. The agency also pointed to the seriousness of the allegations and said charges have already been framed in the case.

The matter concerns the NIA’s prosecution of Rashid under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with the alleged terror-funding case. [KNT]
