DGP Nalin Prabhat Reviews Security Preparedness for Amarnath Yatra 2026 at Lakhanpur Base Camp, Stresses Maximum Vigilance Along NH-44

Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat on Sunday conducted a comprehensive review of security and logistical arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2026 during his visit to the Lakhanpur Base Camp in Kathua district.

The DGP inspected the multi-layered security deployment, access control mechanisms, Joint Police Control Room (JPCR), traffic regulation measures and convoy management system established to facilitate the safe movement of pilgrims entering Jammu and Kashmir through the Lakhanpur gateway.

During the inspection, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kathua, Mohita Sharma briefed the police chief on the comprehensive security strategy, traffic management plan and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) designed to ensure the smooth, secure and uninterrupted conduct of the annual pilgrimage.

Emphasising the importance of foolproof security, the DGP directed all security and civil agencies to remain on the highest level of operational alertness and maintain close coordination at every level. He instructed field formations to intensify area domination and night domination exercises, particularly along National Highway-44, strategic road corridors and the designated Yatra routes.

He also ordered enhanced surveillance across Kathua district and called upon officers to maintain strict vigil over suspicious activities to thwart any attempt aimed at disrupting peace or affecting the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.

The police chief further instructed officers to ensure rigorous verification of pilgrims’ identity documents and maximise the use of the RFID-based tracking system for real-time monitoring of registered yatris. He directed that issues concerning unregistered pilgrims be handled promptly, sensitively and in coordination with the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board while strictly adhering to the prescribed guidelines.

Expressing confidence in the preparedness of the security establishment, DGP Nalin Prabhat said that sustained vigilance, effective coordination among all stakeholders and seamless inter-agency cooperation would ensure the peaceful, secure and successful conduct of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 across Jammu and Kashmir.
