Ayodhya, April 25 :
Authorities in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya have unearthed a major counterfeit edible oil racket, seizing more than 500 crates of spurious “Fortune” refined oil during a crackdown on food adulteration and brand duplication.
Officials said the seized oil was packed in fake containers designed to closely mimic the original “Fortune”brand. The packaging, including labels, color schemes and overall design, was reportedly so identical that it was nearly impossible to distinguish from genuine products.
Sources said the counterfeit stock was meant for distribution in local markets, raising serious concerns about public health and the reliability of branded food products.
Officials involved in the operation revealed that the accused had replicated almost every branding element to mislead both consumers and retailers. “The level of duplication was highly sophisticated, an official said.
While authorities have not disclosed the exact location of the manufacturing or packaging unit, they confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to trace the entire network involved in production and supply.
The seizure has once again highlighted the growing menace of counterfeit food items in the market, particularly those imitating well-known brands to exploit consumer trust.
Officials said further raids and inspections are expected as efforts continue to track the supply chain and prevent the circulation of adulterated edible oil in the region.(CNS)
