New Delhi, July 19 :
National Conference President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Sunday expressed hope that the Centre would respect the aspirations of the people and take concrete steps to address the concerns of Ladakh while restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters after meeting protesters at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, Dr. Abdullah said he hoped the government would act in the best interests of the country and respond positively to the demands being raised.
“I hope the government will respect the wishes of the people of this country. I hope they will work for the good of this country and that the problems of Ladakh will also be solved and the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir will be restored,” he said.
Dr. Abdullah’s remarks came after his interaction with the protesters, who have been raising various issues concerning Ladakh, including constitutional safeguards and other long-pending demands.
The National Conference president reiterated that restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir remains an important issue and expressed hope that the Centre would take appropriate measures to address the aspirations of the people of both Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.(KNC)
