Srinagar, August 27:

Former senior bureaucrat, politician and Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Ghazanfar Ali, passed away on Thursday night at SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, after a prolonged period of illness.

According to family sources, Ghazanfar Ali had suffered a major heart attack on May 18, 2026, following which he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of SMHS Hospital. He remained under medical treatment for some time and was subsequently discharged from the hospital after his condition showed improvement.

However, his health condition reportedly deteriorated again on Thursday, and despite medical care, he breathed his last at around 10:00 PM at SMHS Hospital.

His demise has left his family members, relatives, friends, colleagues and well-wishers in deep shock and grief. People from different walks of life have expressed sorrow over his passing and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.

Ghazanfar Ali was associated with public administration and politics and had served as Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation. His contribution to public affairs and his association with different sections of society were widely acknowledged.

Condolences continued to pour in following news of his death, with acquaintances and colleagues remembering him and expressing solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult hour.

Further details regarding his funeral prayers and burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.(KNC)
