Baramulla, 26 Dec 2024:
The Department of Psychiatry at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla organized its 13th Training Workshop on Drug Abuse today, marking a significant step in the fight against substance abuse in the district. This workshop, the first of its kind aimed at Master Trainers, brought together 30 teachers from various schools under the Department of School Education.
The day-long event focused on equipping teachers with skills to identify early signs of drug abuse, provide effective counselling, and ensure proper referral mechanisms. Interactive sessions allowed participants to share their experiences, offer suggestions, and engage in discussions, enhancing the overall impact of the training.
Speaking at the workshop, Principal GMC Baramulla, Dr. (Prof) Majid Jehangir, urged the participants to extend the knowledge gained to their respective institutions. “Teachers play a crucial role in shaping young minds. By addressing substance abuse early, we can protect our students and build a healthier future for our society,” he said.
This initiative is part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, spearheaded by the District Administration Baramulla in collaboration with GMC Baramulla. Over the past year and a half, the Department of Psychiatry has consistently conducted these workshops, demonstrating its commitment to curbing drug abuse through education and community engagement.
The workshop concluded with a call to action for all participating teachers to become ambassadors of change, fostering awareness and resilience against substance abuse within their schools and communities.
