Government Medical College and Associated Hospital Baramulla had the honour of hosting a visit from Mr. Ajay Piramal, Chairman of Piramal Group, along with his wife Dr. Swati Piramal, Vice Chairperson of the group. The Piramal Group, through its subsidiary the Piramal Foundation is committed towards healthcare and education initiatives in the 112 aspirational districts of India, including Baramulla.

Piramal Foundation, through its dedicated volunteers, namely Gandhi fellows, has been actively engaged in the border areas of Uri and Boniyar, monitoring and aiding the implementation of various healthcare programs such as the Anaemia Mukt Bharat Scheme, Mental Health, and Non-Communicable Diseases surveillance.

Upon their arrival, the esteemed guests were warmly welcomed by the Principal of GMC, Prof. Dr. Ruby Reshi, along with the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, Nodal Officer for DNB courses, Dr. Waseem Iqbal, and Dr. Yasir Bashir, Nodal Officer Emergency Department. In her interaction with the guests Dr. Ruby Reshi highlighted the achievements of GMC Baramulla while highlighting key areas where the foundation could support the institution in terms of infrastructure development. These areas include the need for a Cath Lab and the procurement of costly equipment like Cochlear implants to benefit deserving patients. A detailed presentation of the same was presented by Dr. Waseem Iqbal during the meeting.

Impressed by the remarkable work undertaken by Government Medical College and Associated Hospital Baramulla, Mr. Ajay Piramal expressed his admiration towards the hospital’s management. He commended their ongoing efforts and assured them of the continued support from Piramal Group. Dr. Swati Piramal emphasized the importance of fostering the spirit of “Seva Bhava” (selfless service) among medical professionals, bringing attention to the commitment and dedication required in serving the community.
