Srinagar, Jun 27 :

Former Sadr-e-Riyasat of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Karan Singh, on Saturday reiterated his support for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying the Centre has already made a commitment and should fulfil it.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an Interfaith Dialogue at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) here, Dr Singh, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the restoration of statehood should be carried out as promised.

“I think it should be done. The Government has also promised to restore statehood and I believe it should be done,” he said.

Reflecting on Jammu and Kashmir’s past constitutional status, Dr Singh said the erstwhile state occupied a unique position in the country and expressed hope that its statehood would be restored in due course.

He also stressed the need to strengthen communal harmony and promote interfaith dialogue, saying people belonging to different religions should come together to foster mutual understanding and respect.

“The purpose of interfaith dialogue is for followers of different religions to sit together, understand each other and strengthen mutual respect. Such initiatives are especially important in Kashmir,” he said—(KNO)
