Srinagar, Jan 20 :

Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam has addressed the controversy surrounding Molvi Imran Reza Ansari’s absence from the recent Muthida Majalis Ulema meeting, emphasizing that it was not due to a lack of an invitation but rather because Ansari’s phone was switched off.

The Grand Mufti explained that an invitation was also sent to him via WhatsApp.

These remarks came in response to claims by Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Lone, who alleged that Ansari had not been invited to the meeting aimed at promoting unity among Muslims.

Grand Mufti Islam clarified that Molvi Shams-ur-Rehman was responsible for inviting participants and had sent the invitation to Ansari on WhatsApp when his phone was powered off.

“I have great respect for Imran Sahab and consider him like a brother,” the Grand Mufti told the news agency Kashmir News Trust, adding that the meeting’s purpose was to emphasize unity and foster love and respect, not to insult anyone or create divisions. He urged everyone to refrain from politicizing the matter.

“Please don’t make this an issue. Let us unite and show respect to one another,” he appealed. He also praised SSP Srinagar for taking timely action against miscreants and stressed the need to avoid actions that hurt others’ sentiments.

The meeting was also attended by prominent Shia clerics, including Aga Syed Hasan, Aga Haadi, Masroor Abbas Ansari, and others. [KNT]
