Bakerwal Tribal Festival 2026 was organized today by the Indian Army at the picturesque Butapathri, Gulmarg, with the aim of celebrating and promoting the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and identity of the Gujjar and Bakerwal tribal community.

The programme was graced by Hon’ble Major General Manoj Joshi, VSM, General Officer Commanding, 19 Infantry Division, Baramulla, as the Chief Guest. The event was also honoured by the presence of the Commander, 79 Brigade, along with senior Army officers, civil dignitaries, community leaders, and a large gathering of tribal people from different parts of Jammu & Kashmir.

The festival witnessed overwhelming participation from all sections of the tribal community, including respected elders, youth, women, and students. Colourful cultural performances, traditional folk songs and dances, and exhibitions showcasing the unique customs, heritage, lifestyle, and rich cultural legacy of the Gujjar and Bakerwal community captivated the audience and reflected the vibrant spirit of tribal society.

The event served as a wonderful platform to strengthen the bond between the Indian Army and the tribal community while encouraging the younger generation to preserve and take pride in their cultural identity. The organisers deserve appreciation for providing an opportunity to celebrate the traditions and values that define the Gujjar and Bakerwal community.

Such initiatives play an important role in promoting unity, mutual respect, cultural awareness, and inclusive development, while recognising the invaluable contribution of the tribal community to the social and cultural fabric of Jammu & Kashmir.
