Srinagar, May 16 :

The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has revised the pecuniary limits of jurisdiction for Civil Judges (Junior Division) and Civil Judges (Senior Division) across the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.

According to a notification issued by the Office of the Registrar General, Srinagar, under Section 21 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Courts Act, 1977, all Civil Judges (Senior Division) have been empowered to hear civil suits valued up to ₹20 lakh within their territorial jurisdiction.

Similarly, Civil Judges (Junior Division) have been authorized to hear civil suits valued up to ₹5 lakh within their respective local limits.

The notification stated that the revised jurisdiction limits will come into effect from June 1, 2026.

It was further clarified that all pending suits as on May 31, 2026, shall continue in the respective courts where they are presently pending, irrespective of the revised notification.

The order has been issued by Registrar General M.K. Sharma and circulated among judicial authorities and concerned departments for implementation and publication in the Government Gazette.(KNC)
