Says association does not require dictation from self-styled civil society members

Handwara, Jan 27:
The Handwara Media Association (HMA) held its monthly meeting on Friday to discuss the functioning of HMA and several other issues. The meeting was presided by Association’s President Aatif Qayoom and joined by its Patron, Chairman, Vice President and the maximum number of members.
During the meeting it came to fore that some selfstyled/Facebook journalists are roaming around Handwara and visiting various government offices on behalf of the Media Association of Handwara.
Taking note of complaints HMA received, the president of the association urged administration to not entertain any self-styled Facebook journalists, acting as members of association, he said
President HMA, also stated that a list of media personnel associated with HMA will be made public in the coming days so officers can identify the journalists associated with them body.
It was also discussed during the meeting that some members of self-styled civil society were raising questions about the credibility of the Handwara Media Association, which is unacceptable, and that the association will deal with such people legally, he added.
The vice president Bhat Shameem on the occasion said that some people were not happy with the development of Handwara and they want to get credit for all the developmental works for their personal benefits.
On this occasion, the general secretary also urged the journalist to work for Handwara’s development and ignore those who are unhappy with the town’s peace and development.
Secretary Syed Kabir Geelani said that HMA happens to be a non-political organisation but certain people associated with different political parties were helbent to demean the association for their petty gains.
