Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), a total of 26,748 houses have been sanctioned for construction, with 27,627 houses grounded over the last five years, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, informed the House on Thursday.
While providing data for all states across the country, the Union Minister informed that a total of 26,748 houses have been sanctioned for construction in Jammu and Kashmir, with 27,627 houses grounded.
“As of now, 23,497 houses have been completed and delivered to beneficiaries in the region,” he said, presenting the data report card.
“In terms of financial assistance, Rs 394.97 crore was released by the government, with Rs 401.79 crore utilized for the construction and delivery of houses under the scheme,” he said as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
He said that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched PMAY-U 2.0, effective from September 1, 2024, as part of the ‘Housing for All’ mission.
The scheme aims to provide central assistance for the construction, purchase, or rent of houses in urban areas, targeting one crore additional households across the county.
“This will be implemented through four verticals: Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH), and Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS),” he said.
So far, 29 states and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir, have signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to implement PMAY-U 2.0—(KNO)
