Congress Leader Alleges Students Were Assaulted During Peaceful Protest, Demands Justice, Accountability and Transparent Examination System

New Delhi, July 23:

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that Members of Parliament and leaders of the INDIA alliance were peacefully marching to Gandhi Smriti at Tees January Marg in New Delhi to express solidarity with students affected by the alleged NEET paper leak and to demand justice and accountability.

In a statement shared on social media, Rahul Gandhi said the march was being held to remember the students who, according to him, lost their lives after allegedly being driven to despair in the aftermath of the NEET paper leak controversy. He also claimed that several students participating in peaceful protests were injured after being beaten while demanding justice.

“We are going to remember the students we lost—the children who were driven to take their own lives after the NEET paper leak. We are also standing with the students who were injured today after being beaten for peacefully demanding justice and accountability,” Rahul Gandhi said.

The Congress leader asserted that the country’s students were not alone in their struggle and said the entire INDIA alliance stood united in support of their demands for a fair, transparent and merit-based examination system.

“India’s students are not alone. The entire Opposition stands with them and their demands,” Rahul Gandhi said, reiterating the alliance’s commitment to raising the issue both inside and outside Parliament.

The march comes amid intensified protests by opposition parties and student organisations over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. Opposition leaders have accused the government of failing to safeguard the integrity of public examinations and have demanded strict action against those responsible for examination-related irregularities.

The government, meanwhile, has maintained that it is committed to ensuring transparency in the examination process and has initiated measures to curb paper leaks and strengthen the integrity of recruitment and entrance examinations.(KNC)
