Baramulla, June 28: The Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign was formally launched today at the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Old Town Bagh-e-Islam Baramulla, by Chief Planning Officer (CPO) Nisar Ahmad.

The inaugural programme was attended by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Baramulla, Dr. A.G. Raina; Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jozi Bashir; District Immunization Officer, Dr. Waheeda; Block Medical Officer Sheeri, Dr. Sheikh Nasir; District Coordinator, Dr. Sheikh Asif; and other senior officers of the Health Department.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Planning Officer Nisar Ahmad highlighted the significance of the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign in protecting children from poliomyelitis and strengthening the district’s public health system. He urged all parents and caregivers to ensure that every child below five years of age receives the oral polio vaccine, emphasizing that no eligible child should be left out. He also appreciated the dedication of healthcare workers and frontline staff for their continued efforts in implementing the campaign successfully across the district.

CMO Baramulla, Dr. A.G. Raina, reiterated the Health Department’s commitment to achieving universal immunization coverage and stressed the importance of active community participation in making the campaign a success. He appealed to parents to cooperate with vaccination teams and avail themselves of the free vaccination services.

The campaign aims to strengthen immunization efforts through coordinated healthcare initiatives across all health institutions and outreach centres in the district. A total of 1.64 lakh children in the 0–5 years age group are targeted to be covered during the immunization drive.

The Health Department has made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth implementation of the campaign and appealed to the public to actively participate in safeguarding every child against polio, thereby contributing to the collective goal of maintaining a polio-free Baramulla.
