Srinagar, Nov 08 :

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday conducted searches at seven locations including Jammu, Pathankot in Punjab, Rewari and Karnal (both in Haryana) in connection with the Sub Inspector (SI) recruitment scam in Jammu and Kashmir.

The searches were conducted at the premises of former CRPF constable Surender Singh and Yatin Yadav. Surender Singh was arrested on November 6 and is currently in police custody, while Yatin was arrested on September 19 and is currently in judicial custody.

The probe agency had registered the case on August 8 at the request of the Jammu and Kashmir government to investigate the alleged irregularities in the written exam conducted by the J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB). The exam to recruit 1,200 sub inspectors for the state police was conducted on March 27, 2022 and its result was declared on June 4.

So far, 13 people have been arrested in connection with the case. The arrested accused include a commandant of the Border Security Force (BSF), a former Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), two former constables of the J&K police, one ex-CRPF constable, one ex-CRPF official and a former teacher.

The CBI had earlier conducted searches at 77 locations, including the premises of former Chairman of JKSSB Khalid Jehangir. The agency had recovered cash amounting to Rs 61.79 lakh approximately.

During the investigation, it was found that the question paper was allegedly leaked by Yatin Yadav who is a resident of Rewari, Haryana. He was aided by an employee of a printing press.

Yatin allegedly contacted touts based in Jammu and Kashmir, including constables of J&K Police and the CRPF to seek out candidates of the examination. Those candidates were charged amounts ranging from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh for the paper.

They were allegedly taken to Karnal in Haryana where the question paper was provided to them at a hotel there. The leaked question paper was also allegedly provided to candidates in Gangyal and Jammu.(KNS)
